Requirements for Salvadorans
Salvadorans will soon be required to apply for ETIAS to visit France. The European Travel Information and Authorization System is being launched in 2022 and will be mandatory for citizens of El Salvador.
ETIAS will complement the EU’s visa liberalization policy. Salvadorans will maintain their visa-free privileges however they will no longer be able to enter France using just a passport. Instead, travelers from El Salvador will need to register with ETIAS France before departure.

Documents that I need for ETIAS France

Given that the ETIAS authorization is linked to the passport electronically on approval, it cannot be transferred to a different travel document. For this reason, if the passport expires within the 3-year ETIAS France validity period, a new permit must be requested.
Similarly, Salvadorans applying for ETIAS with dual nationality need to provide the details of the passport they will use to enter France.
As the ETIAS France process is 100% electronic, there’s no need to present documents in person at an embassy or consulate, everything is uploaded digitally.

Travelers from El Salvador should keep up to date with the latest health advice for France in the weeks leading up to their trip.
Health insurance is not one of the ETIAS France requirements for Salvadorans and applicants will not be asked to show proof of insurance as is often the case when requesting a visa. However, medical coverage is highly recommended.
Salvadoran citizens carrying prescription medication in their luggage should ensure it is kept in its original packaging and clearly labeled.
The emergency services can be contacted when in France by dialing 15 or 112.

The majority of Salvadoran applications will be approved almost immediately and the visa waiver is linked to the passport electronically, a notification is also sent via email.
If there is a hit in the system, the request will go on to be processed manually. ETIAS Central and National Units analyze each case individually, those considered a threat to the public will be blocked from entering Europe.
Salvadorans heading to France will have their passport scanned at the external Schengen Area border, only those with a valid ETIAS will be allowed to continue their journey.
Parents and guardians traveling to France with children are reminded that they need to complete the ETIAS questionnaire on their child’s behalf.
How long can Salvadorans stay in Europe with ETIAS?
Salvadoran citizens with an approved ETIAS visa waiver can stay in France for up to 90 days in a 180-day period.
The travel authorization is valid for 3 years from the issue date and allows multiple entries. This means that the holder may return to Europe several times using the same permit as long as both the ETIAS and the associated passport remain valid.
With 90 days to explore, many Salvadorans take advantage of their trip to France to visit other European nations. Thanks to border-free movement within the Schengen Area, the same ETIAS visa waiver can be used for 26 destinations including Spain, Italy, and Germany.
