Requirements for Americans
United States citizens can currently visit France and the other Schengen Area countries visa-free for up to 90 days for business or tourist purposes. However, from the end of 2022, American passport holders will be required to pre-register their travel through the ETIAS ONLINE application form. In order to be eligible to apply, U.S citizens will have to comply with some ETIAS requirements for Americans.

- Passport information issue number
- Passport date of expiry
- Place of birth.
They will also need to answer some questions regarding health and security, with all the data provided then checked against European information databases to pre-screen for any security threats.

Currently, eligible applicants are required to have a current U.S passport valid for at least 3 months past the end of the intended period of stay in France. It’s possible, therefore that passports over 10 years old will not be accepted as a suitable travel document.
Medical info for Americans
United States citizens traveling to France do not require any specific vaccine to enter the country, but it’s wise to be up-to-date with all recommended vaccinations from the U.S. CDCs (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) before traveling to France.
It’s also recommended to get Medical Insurance that provides coverage in France, as U.S. Medicare does not apply overseas. It will be required to pay for medical services before receiving treatment, with the exception of emergency services. Most care providers in France only accept cash payments, but it’s possible to fill in a “Feuille de Soins” (treatment form) for later reimbursement from insurance. Those unable to pay for medical treatment in France may be refused treatment.
Travelers who require prescription medication are advised to check its legality in France, and to carry the medication in the original, clearly labeled packaging alongside the prescription. Emergency medical services in France can be reached by dialing 15 or 122 to connect to an operator.
